10.28.97 - What images does "vletrmx" conjure up in your mind?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This track strogly reminds me the classical music track used as a soundtrack
in "Platoon" (I think its Barber - Adagio for strings, op. II). This is why
this particular track with its somewhat sad music conjures images of the
infinite sadness, misfortune and disaster caused by all forms of war.

death

I picture myself inside this semi-dark cave and I see light shinning far
away so I walk towards it. As the song gets louder the light gets brighter
and I could see polygon-shaped objects floating. Then the song slowly
fades and so do the floating objects. But it gets louder again and this
time I notice that im no longer inside the cave. Now, I'm walking on
space. It's bright and I could see the earth below. Then the song gets
closer to it's end and I picture myself falling from the sky but never
actually hitting the ground.
You wanna hear what I see when I listen to "Clipper"? (just kidding) :-)

It is the coming of death, the coming of failure. It is orgasm. It is
pain. It is the sadness of watching someone close to you die, and seeing
their coffin lowered into a brown pit of dirt, as the rain falls and you
realize that you never told that person how much you loved them.
It is broken dreams and everything you never tried to reach for.

In a nutshell, it is the most beautiful song I have ever heard.

This is from the Wire interview:

"On this array of electronic components the pair recorded their
fourth album, Chiastic Slide, the title a cryptic reference to the
mercurial qualities of the crossfader."

I dunno much more than that.

Hey, sign me up!

As per what "Chiastic Slide" means to me...well, I'm an english grad.
student, so I've got the whole Websters "inversion of the order of words
in two corresponding parallel phrases or clauses" thing goin'
on...however, for the purposes of the album's title, I think its more
along the lines of revealing their method of constructing the
musical/rhythmic themes of the album. In that a rhythm may "read" one
way in one part/voice of a song, it's compliment inverts the order of
that part/voice in a contrapuntal way, almost like a fugue. Bach would
be proud of such craftly clicks and poinks...

"Chiastic" means unpredictable or temperamental ; in their interview
with Wire Magazine(UK) Ae remarked upon the behaviour of this slide.
No mystery!
