Finally found it. Had to pay exorbitant HMV import prices, but I'm now the
proud owner of the new (god, I guess it's probably old by now) Autechre
disk. One question: WHERE'S THE LIST OF SONGS? I'd like to say, 'hey, I
really like ___ song and don't like ___ song' but I can't cause I can't
figure out what each song is called.

I have the distinct feeling I missed something, and that as soon as I find
out Imma look like a dumbass.

I'd be happy to help, but which Ae disk (sic) are you on about?

The latest single is cichlisuite and the latest album is Chiastic Slide.

cichlisuite (cd):
yeesland / pencha / characi / krib / tilapia

chiastic slide (cd) - track names seem to be under much debate
cipater. rettic ac. tewe. cichli. hub. calbruc. recury. pule. nuane.

Hope that helps

It you are talking about 'Chiastic Slide' (not their newest, BTW, sorry), the
songs are written in real small print in the above right corner.

Their newest disc is 'Cichlisuite' and is basically 5 different
re-constructions (literally TOTALLY different) of the song Cichli from
'Chiastic Slide'). Pretty much all new stuff and great.

Same here, my local HMV only charged me 21$. I mean only... CDnow wanted
29$ for it, plus shipping!
Great album IMO. I like "rettic ac" (#2) a *lot*.

Are they really reconstructions, or were they just going for a crap pun?
:)

I'm just curious cos, as Persinthia writes, the tracks are all completely
different and distinct from 'Cichli' on 'Chiastic Slide' too. They may
as well just be a bunch of new tracks, if they are reworking, yes?

Has anyone heard that recent Autechre remix of a drum n bass act...? I
can't remember the name. It's a 12", with a Klute remix on the other side.
I think it's a lot nicer than recent stuff of theirs I've heard (I'm more
into 'Tri Repetae' than things since), although it still has that
vacuum-sealed coldness that accompanies their recent tracks.

I also find the lack of repetition on their new tracks makes them sound
really arbitrary... I reckon _some_ more repetition, or some returns to
earlier themes/rhythms in tracks would make them sound more like they were
really finely crafted rather than just spending hours having fun with
sound processing software.

I know it's all in the ear of the beholder, but yeah... Having said all
this, I really like 'Tewe' off 'Chiastic Slide', which kinda goes against
what I'm saying. It probably emphasises the subjectivity of it all, if
nothing else. :)

well, the tracks on "cichlisuite" sound as much like "cichli" as ae's
remixes of other bands sound like those original tracks...i.e. not much
at all. if you listen carefully, though, there are a few sounds common
to most of the tracks, esp. some of the synth sounds on "krib" and
"tilapia" which were also used on "cichli".

i think they sound finely crafted as they are, randomness and all.
there's a lot more complexity in their recent stuff, keeps me listening
to it.

not in cichlisuite. I will not buy any of autechre's stuff anymore if it all
sounds like this. It reminds me of just plain bad music. I admit the
construction and programming is very very good , but other than that it is
not good at all. I have everything by autechre before this except for eps off
of incunabla , amber , chiastic slide - envane , keneyl and I have been very
impressed by all of it , but this has been the lowest of them. I mean I still
listen to it , but It just doesn't give me that same feeling

I like their recent stuff, and I like cichlisuite, but I agree that
cichli is a bit lighter than, say, envane... I like envane a little more
than cichli. Don't get me wrong, I love cichli, it's just a departure.
